Forgotten

My father was raised in a small village located in Pokhara. He used to tell me tales about his village, “Bhurjung Khola” which can be translated to “The river of owls” a lot and mostly about a specific bird called the Huchil (हुचिल), the Eagle Owl. The village once used to be a home to a large population of these owls and how he recalled seeing a few everyday on top of the trees or resting near the riverbank of Seti Khola. Due to the poaching and killing of these birds they are now considered endangered in Nepal. Youngling are snatched from their parents leaving a dark mark for the next generation.
