Shanti ko Dip ra Yuddha ko Jwala
KREETI , The Sculpture Workshop
28 march – 11 April 2019
After seizing Kirtipur through deceit and force, King Prithvi Narayan Shah inflicted a brutal act of violence, mutilating the noses of the town’s residents. My sculpture reflects both the dark history and the resilient spirit of Kirtipur.
The front side of the sculpture depicts a serene diyo, symbolising the rich cultural heritage and traditions of Kirtipur. In contrast, the back side portrays a raging jwala, representing the painful memories of war, loss, and suffering. These opposing forces are united within a single stone, signifying the enduring hope of the people of Kirtipur. Despite the scars of the past, the city has moved forward, embracing peace and progress. Today, Kirtipur stands as a symbol of resilience, healing the wounds of the past and forging a brighter future.
